POLICE ISSUE SECOND ALERT IN 24 HOURS FOR SIMILAR ATTACKS

For the second time in less than 24 hours, police are alerting residents to a man in a White SUV who has sought to attack a resident.

Late Thursday, police issued an alert related to an incident Thursday morning on Garfield Place in which a black man sought to lure a woman into his white SUV before fleeing.

And, according to a report just issued, a similar, more frightening incident occurred last night on Warren Road. It is unknown if they are thought to be related.

See the latest notice below:

On 10/13/16, at approximately 9:30 PM, officers responded to Warren Rd on a report of a female in distress.Upon their arrival, officers located and spoke with the female, who reported that she exited her home and entered her vehicle that was parked on the street.  Before she was able to close the door, a white SUV pulled up next to her and a male exited the passenger side.  The male grabbed her door to prevent her from closing it and began yelling “get out, get out, get out.” The female then began screaming, at which time, the male re-entered the white vehicle and fled the scene.  The male was described as a black male in his early 20’s with a thin build, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt.  The male never demanded her belongings or announced a robbery, but the female victim believes that the actor wanted her car.  The female victim was uninjured.

Information regarding the incident has been communicated to other Law Enforcement agencies to aid in the investigation. Further, additional patrols are being assigned to the area. Anyone that has information that may assist with the investigation is asked to contact the Maplewood Police Department Detective Bureau at (973) 762-3400.

The incident is under investigation and there is no further information or comment regarding the incident at this time.
